I am a writer, editor and educator with expertise in publishing, nonfiction and university creative-practice courses. I have extensive experience of working with writers to achieve successful book publication.

Writer: I’m currently working on Puffin Picturebooks in Wartime Britain (Cambridge University Press, forthcoming). My next project will be a creative nonfiction book about the Norfolk Broads and climate change. Previous books include the Rough Guide to Food (Penguin), winner of the Guild of Food Writers Award 2010 for Investigative Writing.

Editor: I have been Editor-in-Residence at University College London since 2022 working with ECRs and lecturers delivering masterclasses, workshops and mentoring. I am a freelance nonfiction book editor and, when needed, book doctor (with a specialism in history, art and design, nature and environment, food). I am publisher of a quarterly magazine for an environmental charity. My background is in editorial strategy and brand, creative direction, nonfiction book commissioning and series management. Former Editorial Director and Senior Commissioning Editor Oxford University Press.

Educator: Course Director of the MA Creative Writing & Publishing and Senior Lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, teaching publishing, creative nonfiction writing, professional writing. My particular expertise is in course development at BA and MA level with innovative curriculum development around employability and industry collaboration, creative practice. Experience in departmental leadership, strategic partnerships and multi-stakeholder project management. Publishing and writing workshops, talks and mentoring for authors and researchers.
